It’s always pissed me off when people say “what, are you keeping bankers hours?” My mother is a banker and from as long as I can remember she’s worked more than 10 hour shifts in the regular workweek and works an 8-hour day on Saturday.
My mom and I have a love hate relationship: Me and the Senator love her very much we just hate the workaholic tendencies that she has (and has subsequently given to us through genetics, ugh). It’s fairly annoying.
I can remember many instances of her not being at this awards dinner or this event in my life. It sucks to be completely honest.
Luckily, in the whole “growing up” thing that happened, I’ve made amends and tend to deal with the pain internally, because believe me, she knows it hurt.
We’ve instituted movie night most recently. For the past few months, if a new movie comes out on video or on demand, she’ll come over and we’ll watch a movie.
This week was Wall-E.
Gotta be honest, this was the cutest movie of the year in my opinion.
They show humans as being largely overweight and we both kind of looked at each other and were like “ok, no more popcorn.”
The thing that made me think that I feel like I’m doing some good is what she said. She was talking about an article she had read in the newspaper about the LDS church being pissy because they were protested (we all know my “CRY ABOUT IT” opinion on that one) for the past few weeks.
She said, “Yanno, gay people have always been bigger people than everyone else. Every time I see gay people getting protested on tv, they just kind of keep to themselves and not fuel the protesters fire. I guess they need to figure that out for themselves.”
But she’s right.
Aside from the issue we had in Florida, we as a community have been quiet and not given into protesters bullshit because that would only fuel their fire. Now, we’re getting yelled at for standing outside their churches.
Hmm….
Again… I say… GO FUCKING CRY ABOUT IT!
all for now
peace

I'm adding Wall-E to my Netflix queue right now.
